Personal Philosophy for Leading Positive Change

My definition of leadership is the ability to direct myself and influence those around me. Leadership involves establishing a clear vision and sharing that vision with others. There is no leadership without action, which is why I must direct myself. A leader must grow to have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. I strongly believe that good leaders are made, rather than born. Good leaders are developed through a never-ending process of self-study and education. I define positive change as a change that benefits and impacts.
I personally approach leading positive change by assessing my intent vs impact and being an adaptive leader. Although, when it comes to creating positive change in a group or team, I try to practice grassroots leadership. Intent vs impact is very important to access before and after trying to create positive change. This tool can help you implement change or cause you to have hardships along the way. It’s important when trying to create positive change that you understand the impact of your words and actions. You never want to offend the community or group you are hoping to change. Far as grassroots leadership, I believe this approach is helpful when I try to create positive change. When I think of grassroots leadership, I think of starting by making tiny changes, but these changes then growing into your end goal. This process may not be quick, but it’s all about laying a foundation.
