Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence definitely connects to leading change. I believe you need it to effectively be an excellent good leader. Emotional intelligence allows you to use your emotions when you work with others. All good leaders have interpersonal skills, which can benefit you and the group you are working in. Knowing how others are feeling can shape a group dynamic, but it’s important to not overthink because this is when you may lose focus on the goal.

My strengths when it comes to emotional intelligence are my ability to find solutions, my ability to know my team’s strengths and weaknesses, and my ability to be assertive, yet supportive. An area of my emotional intelligence I am hoping to further develop is my need to overthink things. For instance, I am always constantly thinking if everyone in my group is happy. So, at times if a member in my group seems “off”, I tend to focus too much on how to cheer them up or get to the root of the issue. Sometimes this may cause me to lose focus on the task at hand.
